A Healthy Diet for Imagination
Hey everyone! So the week finally ends. I hope you had a joyful and productive one. I have been working hard, trying to catch up with commissioned works. What with the creativity rut I'm stuck in, that's probably just about the only thing I can do (yep, it's still there, just hanging around casually like an unwanted guest). These two drawings were ordered last month and I've been working on them along with my other projects. I guess it's just a good thing that I'm already in the finishing stages, so there's not too much creativity demanded. Otherwise I would be going insane about now. :)
Some people recommend doing more sketches, creating simple things, or even staying out of the studio and just do whatever that really pleases me before finally going back to work. So many remedies to try and all I can think of is how much easier it would be if I could have prevented it in the first place. Like a good diet to keep the body healthy, I'm sure there's a way to keep the creativity level safe and stable. Wouldn't you agree? Now what exactly do you feed imagination for it to stay in tip top condition? Well, here are some of the things off the top of my head that I will be trying...
Read a book (start to finish!)
Watch a movie (preferably with a magical or whimsical theme)
Update my music playlist
Take a walk and enjoy nature
Spend time on sites that show inspirations (Pinterest, craftgawker, etsy...any suggestions?)
Make a date with my sketchbook
Play with paints and make some mess
Have a day off from work and take oodles of naps! :))
What do you reckon? Do you think that would help? Here's hoping... Anyway, I hope you find some peace and happiness this weekend. Big hugs to everyone!
This commissioned work is beautiful! It's a different headspace we need to think up an idea from actually making it happen isn't it? I think the best way is to make lots of ideas when we're in the creative mood ready in stock for when we need them, like a pantry store of ideas! ;)
ReplyDeleteI've never heard of craftgawker.

oh, these are soooooo sweet Amalia. I'm sorry you are still in a rut, but these turned out great. so much sweetness :)
ReplyDeleteI just decide to quit. Then as soon as I have made a decision, I make a new one. Hahahah! The drawing sends out good vibes!
ReplyDeleteNew to your blog! The pieces are just lovely! As far as keeping things rolling in the studio, I do have to make an effort to get out of it. This week starts my coaching my son's soccer team (ugh!) I'm not sure why I thought that would be a good idea, but at least I'll be outside!
ReplyDeleteAww. These sketch doesn't look like that your in a rut. Its adorable. Just a little tip to keep the creativity flowing. Try to relax once in awhile and try to take a deep breath.

ReplyDeleteThis happens to all of us, doesn't it - we get stuck in a creative rut and sometimes there may have been a way to prevent it but if you think of it - what would we do if we can prevent all moments like this? Look at it from the bright side and use the time to catch up on something else which will boost your creativity. I can see that you have some great steps ahead of you. I would choose enjoying nature for the simple fact that you get a lot of senses involved.
