Watercolor Dream

Splish, splash, dribble, dabble, splatter....
Tell me, who doesn't love the joy of painting with watercolor?
Just looking at these fantastic artworks is enough to make me want to grab my brush and plunge in. :)

I'm not sure why, but I think most fellow artists I know tend to have at least one medium that they long to master, even if they have a few others mastered already. To me, watercolor has always been it. Quite a huge contrast to the pencils I usually work with, wouldn't you say? Somehow I seem to feel a kind of "suspense" when working with watercolor. You just never quite know what you'll get at the end. :)

So anyway, I did end up grabbing that brush after all, and here's my humble result...

What about you? What medium do you dream of mastering? If you have succeeded already, please don't be shy to share your tips with us here! :)

Warm hug,

  1. Watercolour is my "must master" medium too. It's so tricky - you've either too much or not enough water and it never quite seems to dry how you'd expect it to :)

    Love yours though

  3. I was thinking of you yesterday! Honest to goodness. I was wondering how you are doing. Ah look at these colorful collection. I wish I am good at watercolor but I am awful. I think watercolor matches a temperate soul, not one given to explosive desires.

You know, I can't agree more. Watercolor takes a lot of patience.

  4. I love this collection of pieces Amalia! And yours fits in beautifully with the rest. :)

As far as media I'd like to master, being an almost exclusively 2D girl myself it's always been my dream to get better at sculpture (which I've begun to have some success with!) I think with new things it's a matter of dabbling and making mistakes as much as you can to really know the ins and outs of what the medium can do. Then it's just a matter of practice and repetition until you get it right.

    1. Wise words, Veronica. The problem is, sometimes we get impatient and making mistakes can really kill the spirit. Which is why I find watercolor to be very trying. :)

  9. Oh wow I adore her! I too wish I could understand watercolors but believe me you are ahead of me! I'm never comfortable using them! Anyways I've really gravitated towards copic markers! I adore coloring the figure with them now. Still learning little tips and tricks with them though. Your work is wonderful and inspiring!

  12. I dream of mastering...um...just about anything! I suppose acrylic is one medium that, although forgiving in that you can keep layering, I find it near on impossible to paint in a subtle way, so I think I'd like to be able to paint with it properly.
Keep going with the watercolour, this is beautiful like your pencil drawings!xx
