Angels in Winter

When I was thirteen years old, I saw snow for the first time. Growing up in a place where the sun blazed almost everyday half through the year and rain poured consistently the rest of the months, seeing snow was definitely one of the most wonderful moments for me. I still remember the first scent, the first touch, even the first smack of snowball behind my neck..they're all safely planted in my memory even until now. Well, I guess it's true. Winter is magical. I know that the only chance of seeing snow for me now is probably by watching Jack Frost with the kids (for the zillionth times), but that shouldn't stop me from daydreaming, right? :)

Anyway, these are my Snow Angels, lively and bright to add some color to a cold white winter season. Of course, you're probably wondering how on earth did I manage to make them while I have a baby who cries every half an hour and two little kids who seem to need something every time I finally have the chance to take a break. :) Well, to be honest, it took me over a week to make these...and it was sheer torture each time I walked passed my desk and glanced at them, wishing I could get my hands all dirty with paint and glue so I could finish them! I'm sure many of you recognize that kind of torture. Haha!

So here's to a white magical winter to you! Even if you don't get to see snow, at least you can daydream...like I do. :))

Amalia, oxx

  2. No, Shayla. I made them out of thick chipboard. But you're not the first who thought they were. :)

  3. They do look like wood and they are so perfect :) I know how hard it is to find time to create with little ones needing you so much, every minute of every day... it gets better eventually ;) My grandson was standing next to me while I was trying to work with "what are you doing? are you done? but, I need you" etc, etc, etc. precious, and frustrating all at once.

  9. This made me chuckle - I always find it hard to think of Christmas with snow as all my Christmas' have been hot. These snow angels are so cute, they look stunning as little cut-outs. I'm amazed that with three little kids you manage to get anything done, I still battle sometimes and my babies are 15 and 20.

  10. Sheepishly, I must say that you are probably more productive than I am, and I do not have a newborn. You are my idol!

Aww, these are beautiful, beautiful angels! Each is so sweet and bright with color and life. They have a gorgeous sheen to them, too!

  11. I've lived in the valleys and deserts of California most of my life, and have rarely seen the snow fall. Only three times, but you never forget when it falls.

Snow or not, you have a very unique and memorable style to your art, and that's hard to find these days!

  14. Whah! Where's my comment? I thought I already commented on this earlier this week. Hehehe. Put on a goatee. That would be cute. Amalia, these are incredibly adorable. Please do not tell me that you did this yourself because I will feel so incompetent. I just vacuumed the living room and I already feel so exhausted I think I deserve a day of rest, sit and just draw or eat grapes. Heheheh. I hope you are doing well. How is your wee one? And the older epsilons, how are they doing? Are they enjoying being the big brother and big sister? Take care, sweet. Tsup!
