The Frog Prince's Bride

There comes a time in a prince's life, when light falls down upon his noble brows
As a fair maiden gracefully touches his soul and enters his heart...

...whether he is human, or a frog. :)

The Bee and I

I'm an insectophobic. Well, not a severe kind, but some days I could runaway screaming only from having a moth fly near me. Although I can't recall when it all started, I still have vague memories of me as a kid hiding behind my dad, covering my ears because I was afraid that a bee would mistaken them as the entrance to its hive. Today, I regret to say, that the phobia continues to haunt me. People have called me silly probably a million times, but what can I say? It's not like I can help it.

A few days ago, in the attempt to clean up my kids' room, I found my daughter's junior encyclopedia and stumbled upon a page with bees on it. It's a beautifully illustrated book and the bees just seemed to jump right at me! The strange thing is, I suddenly had an image in my head that was screaming to be poured out onto paper. So I ended up in the studio instead, drawing and painting this girl and her friend. The bee. :))

I won't lie that I spent the longest time just drawing the bee. I had to cringe every now and then from observing the details. LOL! It was quite a challenge, but I must say I really love how it turned out.

Well, the next time you're out in the garden and see a bee flying your way...think of me. :)

Evangelina (and her bee!) is now available in my shop.

Dolls for the Whimsical Hearts

When I was little I had a box full of Barbie dolls. Something which I'm reluctant to admit as a grown up, if I may so myself. One thing I remember, though, I always had the urge to give my Barbie a "makeover" everytime I get a new one. Be it a scraggly haircut, a black marker hair dye, an unfortunate big red lip, or a disasterous pair of smokey panda eyes. Poor things, they had no idea what they had gotten themselves into. :)

Anyway, now all grown up, I get gooey eyed everytime I spot a strange and whimsical looking art doll. Seriously, if I had my way I would fill up my cabinets full of them! Here are some I found online, see if you feel the same way...

I love how eerily they seem to stare at us and I'll bet they look even more beautiful in person! Now, how could you not appreciate the time and effort put into creating these pieces of art, right? So it's no surprise that some of these dolls could burn a hole in your pocket. But of course, worth every penny. :)

Well, I'll leave you to more browsing. Each image leads to their links by only a click away!

Happy Tuesday! ♥

A New Watercolor Project

Happy weekend, everyone! I hope yours is starting wonderfully. I've been resting my pencils for a couple of days and picked up a brush to start a new little project. Some of you may already know that watercolor has always been a challenge for me. I guess it's the unpredictable quality of it that seems to keep me on the edge of my seat everytime I use it. What can I say? Maybe pencils are simply "well behaved"? Haha! But nevertheless, I'm really enjoying this new project. It's such a change from my usual work, kind of feels like a vacation for me. Sorry though, I can't tell you what it is just yet, but I will when it's ready! :)

So anyway, that's actually something I've always wondered about other artists. Do you use a particular medium for all your work? Do you ever feel that using something different would make your work unrecognizeable? I've noticed that some artists use various types of mediums and still manage to show their "signature", even if they are required to work outside of the box.

Well, that's something to ponder about... Meanwhile, I wish you all a lovely, cheerful weekend. See you soon!

Inspiring Art: Tran Nguyen

Hi all. How's the week progressing for you? I was re-organizing the blog the other day and realized that I haven't shared any of my favorite artists in a while (and I have a pretty long list to choose from too!). So let me share with you the work of this amazingly talented young artist, Tran Nguyen.

The first time I saw Tran Nguyen's work was over a year ago and I still remember how immediately I felt drawn to them as I stared deeper into each one. There is a surreal dream like quality that seems to mesmerize you in a very emotive and delicate way, it almost feels like you are facing your own emotions.

In the short time she's had after graduating from college in 2009, this Vietnam born artist has already shown her true mark in the world of art. Her work has been exhibited in a number of major galleries in the US and even overseas, such as London and Barcelona.

Here are the links to her incredible art:

After seeing her other works, I have no doubt you would add her to your list of favorites too. :)

Have a great day!
