Shades of Gray

Bonjour, mes amis! How are you? I'm sorry for being a tad bit quiet lately, but I have been busy as a bee working and taking care of the kids at home. Also, my studio was looking a little dusty and dreary, so I decided to clean up and get organized. I even found some black and white study drawings of my previous work that are now up for sale in my shop...

Don't you just love black and white drawings? I think there's something very beautiful in their simplicity that makes them stand out from the rest. I love how the shades of gray create a depth of its own and sometimes even the simplest of sketch could show such a dramatic effect. It's just wonderful how they could catch your eye in an instant, even among colors. I'm reminded of the times when I first learned this drawing technique, and you too should be able to learn how to create dramatic black and white drawings through art classes.

I guess sometimes simplicity speaks louder than anything else. Wouldn't you agree? :)

  1. You are absolutely right, Amalia! Simplicity not only in art, but in life, too (in one's behaviour, clothes, lack of make-up...). What a find! I like all drawings!
About the grey colour... We were in Kenya during the raining period. The rain always poured, all of a sudden, usually for a short time. And the sun showed again among the clouds. One day I realized that they had different nuances of grey! A lot of nuances... They were so beautiful!

  7. Well, I'm pretty simple in lots of ways, but I can really shout loud!

I think your work is anyting but simple, regardless of the 'shade' or saturation. I guess your studio should be pretty clean by now. I actually put my paints in the order the other day - I usually have a big pile of them and when I use a pigment in a painting I put it in a box with all the other colours I have used for that painting - but this time I lined them up - I discovered I have five cad oranges and six cad reds !! It;s cause they costs o much money I rearely use them, but then when I go to the shop I buy another one - gah I am a thickhead :) see you

Oh your work is beautiful but you should know that :)
