In Rerum Natura (IF - Double)

Being a woman venturing into life, I often wonder how far enough do I know myself. Whether I truly understand my own thoughts, my doings and the outcome of my actions. And of course, the answer, just as to every secret stored in my head is...yes. And no.

Like two faces of a coin and two hands of a compass, I am two opposite sides of a human being, intricately bound as one. Inseparable by nature, impossible to divide. Each standing as two solid towers that compliment one another, and in the same time create all kinds of conflicts and chaos inside myself. It's all in the nature of things, as a great man would believe.

So where exactly do I stand?

I suppose perception is always a way to start. Good or bad is yet another question to answer and the truth lies somewhere in between, like every missing puzzle that keeps popping up in the most unlikely of places and the strangest of conditions. Yet, I find myself venturing even deeper as visions become blurred and logic muddled. Answer, or no answer. It is human nature, and that's the best explanation I have so far.

Answers will come. All in good time.

In Rerum Natura is inspired by my good friend, The Clown Giant, who has ever so kindly shown me the two sides of a coin in every human being, and how natural it is to embrace both. Providing we have the right kind of balance, of course.

With good faith,
Amalia

PS: My deepest gratitude, Monsieur, for enlightening me with your incredibly complex thoughts. It amazes me how good and evil sometimes think alike. Rabbit or no. Pandora sure knew what she was doing. You were right about one thing, malum quo communius eo peiusmalum. No? :)

  3. Wonderful work Amalia! :) It's so lovely to be inspired by profound words like these and for me, I see art as two opposing things as well as ourselves. On the one hand I love the humour and quirkyness and on the other hand I love the beauty and the soul-reaching abilities of beautiful art. Thankyou for a lovely post.xx

  4. Your artwork is so unique and creative. I love your thoughtful prose too! I think we all have more than two sides to bring into balance. We are more like an oscillating fan, with several blades. If they are all in balance, we will spin smoothly...

  5. Oh, Amalia! This one is exceptionally stunning:) And a lovely, introspective post as well. Thank you for sharing!

  6. Hey, Amalia!! Stunning piece!! I thought there were two sides of me because I am a Gemini...lol! I can relate to your words!!

  7. Beautiful piece! What media do you used?

  8. Hey Amalia! I try not to get to know myself too well. I like surprises:o) You certainly are like two sides of a coin from my perspective. Your artwork and poetry expose your deep, intense side... and when you comment on mine or other's blogs... Your fun side and incredible sense of humor come to light. I look forward to your blog as it urges me to look inward and think. I look forward to your comments as they always make me smile or laugh. I wish I could illustrate women's hair like you!

  9. Thank you to everyone who has came and comment. You just put a good start to my morning... (^-^)

  10. Jessie dear, yes I agree with you how art could show different faces to us. Although I often see it in so many faces that my mind would strain from imagining too much! Hahaa... Thank you, my sweet friend! (hugs)

  11. Katherine, thank you for your kind words. I like how you compare human with an oscillating fan, that just brought a new image for me to ponder on! :))

  12. Manon, ah yes Geminis! That I understand totally. I have so many Geminis circling in my life (including my daughter), that it's fascinating to see them show their different sides. Which of course could be quite confusing sometimes. Haha! Thank you, sweet Manon. :))

  13. Thank you, AnKo. This piece started as a graphite drawing, but then I got curious and started fiddling with it in Photoshop. Something I haven't done in along time, by the way... :)

  14. Now Jack, I hope I don't confuse you too much with my double personality! I could be Mrs. Jekkyl and Hyde for all you know! Hahaa.. Well, thank you for your kind, kind words, Mr. Foster. You are quite a personality yourself! (^-^)

  15. Such an enigmatic picture! The two sides of your personality, you say... It's good if you know them and can predict which one will act in a certain situation. The shy, pure and undisguised or the self-confident and determined Amalia... Well, I'm not completely sure, but I think that more persons live in me. I do know the Main One (the best, I suppose) and try to be Her as much as I can ... You didn't draw without a purpose the key and the chest - questions for us, questions for you... Maybe if the key turns out to suit the chest, in that very moment you'll reach your wholeness. (Oh, I regret that I can't express myself in Bulgarian - it would be much better, for sure, but I hope you understand me, despite the mistakes).
I think I see for the first time animals, drawn by you and I find them AMAZING! You are really very talented!!xxx

  18. Aw, darling Rossichka, you don't have to write in Bulgarian for me to understand you! I think if we were to meet, we could just sit face to face and understand what we have in our minds! Hahahaa...!

Yes, there's so many questions hanging in my head and I will take time to discover the answers. To tell you the truth, meeting people like you have helped me do that lately! (a big hug)

  19. Amba, my sweet friend, thank you for that. I hope you found comfort, and if my drawing helped even just a little then I am in peace. I share them with everyone, and I do hope that my closer friends could understand them more... (hugs) oxx

  20. Hmn... do I have to weigh both sides here? You know, I am trying to balance things...

  21. The illustrations are stunning. Reminds me of Ulan and Monsoon.

  22. Actually there is only one illustration but I am including your header...

  23. By the way, Oh crud, I forgot what to say. I have so many things in mind. Oh! Oh! I remember. Are these two having a conflict? They have reached an impasse, have they? One holds the key and the other holds the trunk. One is peaceful and sociable while the other is elusive and wise. All I can say is this - life is so short. If these two can't find each other, perhaps let go of one another? Sometimes the Peaceable Kingdom is an illusion. Some animals have to be separated, unless they are ingredients for a meat lover's pizza, then they can mix. Is it pizza time?

  25. My dear Amalia, I'm truly happy that I have met you and your art! With everything drawn and written you inspire me in the most beautiful way... Do you know, I discovered for myself that the Main Questions are different for the different ages... So, sometimes you get me back to my youth and other times I wonder how wise you are for you age! You can read my full answer in my blog.See you!xx

  26. such a wonderful piece. I love all the symbolic details. Also, I can relate to all you have written here. So complex and so simple we can be. We are and we are not....

  27. The colours and depth to this image are so intense, every time I look at it I see something new, maybe having two sides of ourselves allows us to find something new about us too that we didn't already know :) For me, my other side comes out when I draw!

    ReplyDelete
  28. Hi Ces! :) Well, these two do have conflicts sometimes, but I think providing them a peaceful passage in between has been a good enough attempt to make them live together harmoniously. Fortunately, I have not seen an impasse between them, well at least it's something I'm still working on until now... Thank you, sweet! :))

  29. Heidi and Krista, Thanks so much! :)

Vanilla, you know I think you're right. Sometimes I even wonder if there was a third or fourth side to myself! To every human, for that matter... Cheers, luv! :)

  36. Well, Monsieur... but of course you are both! See, putting you down as "Clown Giant" would make people focus more on the 'Giant' bit. I'll just let the real 'Clown' surprise them, should they be crazy enough to enter your domain! Sort of like an ambush??? AHAHAHAHAHAAHAHA...!!!!(*thunder clashing*)

    See you Thursday! :))
