Dear best friend,
I've been thinking about you.
Do you remember the times when we used to get so fed up of life? The way we used to take long rides to nowhere, singing Simon and Garfunkel's Bridge Over Troubled Water? How we would cry while we laughed at the same time? I would tell you how glad I was that we had each other. You would just make a silly face and tell me to watch the road.
I listened to that song today. Over and over and over, until I cried and cried. But I couldn't laugh. Not without you.
If only I could tell you how much I wish you never left. How much I wish I could still call you up for a cup of coffee or a walk down the park. How much I wish that we didn't have to part so soon because I had imagined so many times how we would grow old together and be silly until the very end.
Now I am here. You are there, somewhere in a different world. I miss you. You have no idea.
But I will be strong for you, and live my life happily for you. I know you would want me to.
Farewell, dear one. Until we meet again on the other end of the bridge.
Forever your best friend,
Forever your best friend,
When you're weary
Feeling small
When tears are in your eyes
I will dry them all
I'm on your side
When times get rough
And friends just can't be found
Like a bridge over troubled water
I will lay me down
Like a bridge over troubled water
I will lay me down
When you're down and out
When you're on the street
When evening falls so hard
I will comfort you
I'll take your part
When darkness comes
And pain is all around
Like a bridge over troubled water
I will lay me down
Like a bridge over troubled water
I will lay me down
Sail on Silver Girl,
Sail on by
Your time has come to shine
All your dreams are on their way
See how they shine
If you need a friend
I'm sailing right behind
Like a bridge over troubled water
I will ease your mind
Like a bridge over troubled water
I will ease your mind
Feeling small
When tears are in your eyes
I will dry them all
I'm on your side
When times get rough
And friends just can't be found
Like a bridge over troubled water
I will lay me down
Like a bridge over troubled water
I will lay me down
When you're down and out
When you're on the street
When evening falls so hard
I will comfort you
I'll take your part
When darkness comes
And pain is all around
Like a bridge over troubled water
I will lay me down
Like a bridge over troubled water
I will lay me down
Sail on Silver Girl,
Sail on by
Your time has come to shine
All your dreams are on their way
See how they shine
If you need a friend
I'm sailing right behind
Like a bridge over troubled water
I will ease your mind
Like a bridge over troubled water
I will ease your mind
(Simon and Garfunkel)
I fall in love with this drawing right in the moment I saw it!!!!!! I have to go out in a minute, so I'll write later!
ReplyDeleteAmalia, this is such a beautiful yet poignant illustration. Somehow, I know how this feels. It used to hurt but then later your heart starts telling you that the pain should stop for it can no longer bear it. So you start healing but still our longing and missing do not end. They are just replaced by recollection and remembering.
ReplyDeleteI love your lines. They are so fluid. Your mixture of colors make it look so rich and intense.
That poor dear girl, she must need that dear best friend of hers especially now.
Take care dearest Amalia. I hope you feel better and regain super strength soon. I shall think of you especially during that most important and exciting day!
Tsup!
All of your art is so so gorgeous, I can't get over how whimsical and beautiful your pictures are. I just love your stories that accompany them too, I will never get tired of reading them, they're all so magical and heartfelt!
ReplyDeleteThis is beautiful Amalia and it looks quite sculptural. I think most of us have a memory of our best friend when we were younger, someone who we would laugh with so much that tears roll down your face. I miss those days too, I hope one day to find that feeling again :) xx
ReplyDeleteWell, this time I cannot write anything. Reading the letter to your best friend, whose loss you can't overcome, I feel a lump in my throat... The soothing golden moonlight softens a little the feeling of loneliness and despair. The lines of the girl's body speak so much... A very touching drawing!!...xx
ReplyDeleteOh, by the way, I know and like that song!... You turned me back to the time when I was a schoolgirl. I must find and listen to it tomorrow!! Thank you!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful. Both the illustration and the words. This is also very timely for me as I am missing someone who just recently left, so thank you!
ReplyDeleteAnd thanks for visiting my blog and your nice comments!
Amalia, this is a beautiful, beautiful drawing. The song is a classic and loved by many of us.
ReplyDeleteAnd best friends.... what would life be without having had one or two?
Take care, dear Amalia.

ReplyDeleteHello Amba :)
ReplyDeleteIt's tough when you're so faraway from someone so close to you. Well, my best friend died of cancer 4 years ago. Seems only yesterday we were talking on the phone.
I hope you'll see your best friend soon... (hugs)

amalia, i did not intend to visit and leave a comment, but this is heartwrenchingly beautiful. i understand this in the deep place you write from. some spaces do not, will not be filled, but the love remains and that love in time finds others who need it. you can love on behalf of your departed friend.
ReplyDeletei was directed here by a friend of mine, and now i see why. best wishes.
love

Amalia, your beautiful words put a tear in my eye and your wonderful artwork put a lump in my throat. You really know how to evoke emotion! You will be in my prayers tonight. Losing someone hurts. At first memories bring tears, but after a while there is a joy in those same memories and smiles replace the tears.
ReplyDeleteNothing is sacred anymore!!!
ReplyDeleteI think I will throw up.
ReplyDeleteI need a witch potion.
ReplyDeleteQuick! bring me my beautiful witch!
Hey Amalia! I've been lost in space for so long, I guess! It's summer vacation, you know, and I'm spending more time with my kids! (if it could be possible!)
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely letter, Amalia, so sad but filled with so many nice feelings on it, lovely memories, so touching... I know this beautiful message and adorable image will travel right to her soul. She will always be alive in your memories and in your heart ♥
Dear Amalia,
ReplyDeleteYour illustration has a lot of feeling and it is beautiful. The song, "Troubled Water" is a very emotional song.
I miss my sister, who is no longer with us, so I understand about your loss.
Thank you for sharing your heartfelt feelings.
Love and hugs,
Jo.xx
I miss my best friend. She died so young.
ReplyDelete...and by the way, I did intend to visit and leave many comments.
ReplyDeleteIt's Monday! Ugh!
Okay. You are being creative with thr characters in your keyboard. Very clever! :)
ReplyDeleteAmalia ... anche per me queste parole hanno un senso profondo... anche per me c'è qualcuno con cui avrei voluto prendere un caffè... ma gli amici restano nel cuore... ti abbraccio...
ReplyDeleteThis piece is so beautifully sad and poignant. I am so sorry that you lost someone so dear to you. I hope that your beautiful art helps you to heal in some small way. ~Lauren
ReplyDeleteYou are all such generous souls, you know that? I am touched. And lucky. :) oxx
ReplyDeleteOh, Amalia, this is tremendously beautiful. Such sadness and yearning, but still so much life and energy swirling about. What a sad, sad pose she has. When the waters become troubled, it's always comforting to have a good friend to be your bridge. I'm so sorry your friend is not here to laugh with you or cry with you.
ReplyDeleteAaah, yes. I am all out of sunshine. But colorful nights are good too. In fact, I think the nights could use a lot more sprucing up than the day. If you still have some twilight dust to share, I'l gladly take some off your hands!
xoxo
Well I was silly enough to read Ces's comment so all I can say to add is 'wow'. But having said that before - you know, I realy admire how the organics of the hair and the trunk and the 'leaves' and the water have that same rhythmic whole. As if Gaia really is the truth - but of course it is.
ReplyDeleteI'm very sorry about your friend.
ReplyDeleteHello Monsieur :)
ReplyDeleteI suppose Gaia could be the truth as long as our mind would like her to be. Just as some people seem to be more familiar with Erebos, and I for instance, would rather the company of Hemera's. :)
You words are kind. I thank you for that. :)
What a GORGEOUS illustration, Amalia. It's full of emotion, depth, color and all of your wondrous marks. I feel how much you love your best friend..it is so apparent. I am so sorry of your loss though..I can't imagine the pain that you've gone through..but to know you have had those gloriously happy times is comforting to me. She will never be replaced and the love you have for her will continue. Big hugs Amalia! And I'm SO glad I was able to stir up a happy memory of youth! : )
ReplyDeleteAmalia -
ReplyDeleteBut now that message is sent - and who knows how far they reach, these words and thoughts and wishes we shape and draw and create? Perhaps the unsent is always sent, for as soon as our imagination shapes, something is released. Your friend might hear every single word on this page....
Bridge Over Troubled Water, ah, I remember....
Grete
beautiful, brilliantly expressed in both words and lines...
ReplyDeleteYou are super duper *TALENTED*. You words and drawings are just amazing...
ReplyDeleteAnd I am so happy that we met! Look at the mountains for me today! Tsup!
ReplyDeleteAmazing that it is cold there when it is humid up here. Now you two, don't start any commotion. Goodness will the city be able to handle both of you? Hahaha!!!
ReplyDeleteI have something to share with you when I go home this evening.
